Community resources are utilized to support and promote strategic methods which build or enhance relationships with community members and organizations. This work spans across socioeconomic statues, education history or creed to focus on the needs of the individuals and how to meet them where they are at.
Strategic Objectives:
- Identify existing program services and needs which could benefit from Coalition support
- Help to build capacity to leverage support and resources for community-based organizations
Key Projects:
Identified Areas
Community Coalition partners and members identified areas needing support, including: the needs of the homeless population, re-entry population services, methods for addressing race and racial reconciliation, and strategies for preventing youth violence.
Gaps in Service
Several needs suggested as gaps in services and support for youth and families, including: programs for the 18-28 population, targeted programs for specific youth (age, gender), workforce development, and family/parent/caregiver programs.
Current Initiatives:
Economic Development
Economic Development is a key priority within the coalition initiatives. The coalition supports minority and women owned business enterprises within our community, in effort to improve the overall economic landscape. This includes convening the Campus-Community Compact, working with business owners to provide resources and information, and identifying barriers within communities that have historically been underserved.
Race Relations Subcommittee
The Race Relations Subcommittee is made up of a group of volunteers from the Community Coalition who work toward racial equity in the community. The goal of this group is to create opportunities for community members to engage in honest discussions around race by bolstering communication between different groups that make up our community.

The Black Mental Health and Wellness conference is a full day conference that will be hosted September 30, 2023 from 8:00 am-5:00 pm at Parkland College, 2400 W. Bradley Ave. Champaign, IL.
