East Asian Story Time

November 19, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 10:30 am

Come and listen to a bilingual story in Japanese and English! This month’s theme is East Asian folklore, featuring the story, Hats for the Jizos
On New Year’s Eve, an old man goes to town hoping to sell something so he can buy some special food to celebrate the New Year. On the way home, it begins to snow. The old man sees six statues of the deity Jizo (jee-zoh), looking cold. He decides to do a nice deed and then returns home to his wife. The next day, on New Year’s Day, the two awaken to a surprise.

The Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies, in partnership with the Champaign Public Library, presents East Asian Story Time, a monthly family event series celebrating cultural and language diversity in our communities. Each bilingual storytime event will feature a story read in English and Chinese, Japanese, or Korean to spark children’s interest in East Asian languages and cultures. All are welcome!
